Tuesday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m.
The town hall meeting was held at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124, thanks to the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO, for all former and retired employees of the Bannister Federal Complex.
Jason Klumb, U.S. General Services Administration Regional Administrator, and doctors and scientists from the Centers for Disease Control’s National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) were in attendance to present a slide show of their role in the on-going Health Hazard Evaluation of the GSA. A question and answer session was held during the meeting.
This week, the NIOSH team will be at the Bannister Federal Complex to for smaller group and one-on-one meetings to hear the health data from all current and former employees of the GSA facility. In addition, they will be performing an environmental assessment, with the results to be provided by the end of the year.
The NIOSH team provided hand-outs, email addresses and other contact information for future questions.
NIOSH is at the Bannister site to evaluate the GSA side of the facility only. They are NOT permitted on the Honeywell side.
The NIOSH team will be at the Bannister Complex from June 1 – 4 to collect health data from current and former employees as part on their on-going study, holding group and one-on-one sessions throughout the week. The team will also perform an environmental assessment of the GSA facility.
Approximately 250 people attended the meeting, but very few had a chance to answer questions. The meeting time was simply too short. In fact, many people simply walked out. We can only hope they took advantage of the follow up meetings held on the 2nd and 3rd, or at minimum, took note of the contact information of the NIOSH representatives.
For everyone who missed the meeting, the contact information provided during the slide show is shown below. Please, contact these folks to inform them of your health conditions! They will dismiss our claims unless we speak loudly and in numbers! I will post the full slide show as soon as possible.
